Fr. Rich's Homily

In Sympathy

Please remember in your prayers John Weber, Susanna Maxwell and all the deceased members of our parish. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Pre-Cana Class - January 28

Our January Pre-Cana class will be held on Saturday, January 28 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Please note that 77 couples will attend the 4:00 PM Vigil Mass here at St. Joseph. Seating will therefore be limited at that Mass. Also, due to the all-day schedule for the Pre-Cana, Fr. Rich will not be able to hear confessions that day. Confessions will be heard on Wednesday of this week from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM as usual.

The Saint Joseph Staff and Parish extends a warm welcome to the couples attending our Pre-Cana class this weekend. May the love of Jesus Christ for His Bride, the Church, be your inspiration as you begin a life of total self gift proven in sacrifice and service for one another. Christ’s peace and joy be yours today and always!

Adult Choir To Resume Next Month

After our January break for our parish choir, rehearsals will resume on February 2 at 7:00 PM. All those interested in joining the choir for the spring season, please contact Ginny Ambrose in the rectory.

Fish Fry Meeting

Calling all volunteers! We will be holding a Fish Fry Meeting on Thursday, February 2 at 6:30 PM in the school cafeteria. Anyone interested in helping this year should attend. We look for and welcome new faces! Come and have fun while supporting your church. If you are willing to volunteer and cannot make the meeting, please contact Ryan Jozwiak at 412-264-9197.

Blessing of Throats

This Friday, February 3 is the feast day of St. Blaise, an early Christian martyr known for the miraculous cure of a choking child. In his honor, the Church blesses throats on his feast day. If you would like to receive this blessing, please come to our 8:00 AM Mass with the blessing to follow.

Mardi Gras Committee Forming

The parish staff wishes to thank those who have come forward to volunteer help with our annual parish Mardi Gras to be held on Tuesday, February 21. A few more people are needed to help with decorating, set up, tear down, ticket sales, and/or publicity. If you would like to help in any of these areas, please contact the rectory.

Adult Coordinator for Living Stations

We are looking for an adult to coordinate Living Stations of the Cross this year for our teens. This person would need to have his/her clearances with the Diocese and facilitate practices with our young persons. If you are interested, please contact the rectory.

How Mass Scheduling Works

We often receive questions about how Mass scheduling works. For example, “Why do some people seem get more than their allotted Masses?” or “Why do they get more than one Sunday Mass?” As you may know, when we book our Masses in November, parishioners are allowed 2 Masses per year, and of those, only one weekend Mass. We usually have leftover spaces after our Mass Booking Day so parishioners, or any person, may schedule more Masses, even weekend Masses if available. Eventually our Mass book fills up. Then when someone requests a Mass, we place their intentions in a "Mass Overflow Book" to keep track of those Masses until the next year. Often when someone dies, many Masses for that soul will come in. This explains why you may see repeated Masses for the same intention. But in all, be assured that our staff keeps careful attention to scheduling everything on a first, come, first serve basis. There are some openings for 2012. To schedule additional Masses, contact the rectory.
