Lent is a time to make straight our crooked paths. Penance, alms giving and fasting are excellent ways to awaken our spiritual lives. All Catholics age 14 and up are obliged by
Church law to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and every Friday of Lent. Adults age 18-59 are also obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting consists of no more
than one full meal with two smaller meals that together do not exceed the large meal.
Stations of the Cross
Stations of the Cross have returned to the usual Friday schedule this year at 7:00 PM on every Friday of Lent.
Local Lenten Penance Services
Lent is a special time of year for strengthening our relationship with Christ through repentance. To make more available the Sacrament of Reconciliation, penance services will be held during the
next several weeks in our local area parishes:
Thanks to two generous parishioners, Susan Schwartz and Cathy Grimm, who have volunteered as leaders, the Living Stations of the Cross is scheduled to take place at St. Joseph once again!
Now all we need is our teens to come and help. If you are in grades 6-12, we would love to have you participate! You don’t have to be a brilliant actor, just be able to hold a pose. Interested
teens are to call Susan at (412) 916-1928. Our presentation will take place on Palm Sunday, April 1 in the church from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
Lenten Booklets
If you are looking for a resource to guide you in prayer for Lent this year, please check out “"Daily Reflections for Lent: Not by Bread Alone" by Bishop Robert F. Morneau. These booklets are available free at the entrances of our church this season.
