Catholic Daughters of the Americas
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas
(CD of A) Court 965 at St. Joseph Church recently celebrated
their 80th anniversary. Three keys to the success of
the CD of A are faith, enthusiasm, and service to God.
Their patroness is Mary, the Immaculate Conception and the
motto is “Unity and Charity.” New members are always
welcomed. Catholic lay and religious women in good
standing in the church, 18 years or older, are eligible for
and entitled to membership in the order. Monthly
meetings are held from September to May.
Christian Mothers
Instituted in 1953, the St. Joseph
Christian Mothers have been an active and visible
lifeforce in the parish, instilling Christian values in the
home relating both family and Church. They are active
in parish functions when services are needed, and raise
monies to help those areas of our parish in need. We
are governed by four officers and board members, with the
pastor serving as moderator and the pastoral associate as
liaison. The patroness is the Mother of Sorrows.
The Christian Mothers also have a “prayer circle” as a way
of remembering those in need of prayer. Members meet
the third Wednesday of each month, September through May,
and membership is open to any woman of the parish.
St. Anthony Congrega
St. Anthony Congrega is an organization
that has a long history in the parish. It has been in
existence for 51 years. This group of over 100
parishioners honors St. Anthony annually on his feast
day, June 13, with Mass, blessing and distribution of bread,
a social and an annual meeting. Please contact the
Rectory at 412.264.6162 or
st.josephparish@verizon.net for more information.
Holy Name Society
The Holy Name Society encourages and
supports men in their efforts to learn and profess
their faith and to impact the world in which they live.
The St. Joseph Holy Name Society had its beginning in
1959. The primary purpose of the Holy Name Society is
spiritual. It is not a beneficial organization
nor is it a social club. As one of the only purely
religious, lay societies of the Catholic Church, it provides
Catholic men an opportunity to develop their faith through
prayer, fellowship, and active participation in parish life.
HNS men are active in various
parish ministries as Eucharistic ministers, lectors, ushers,
Pastoral Council members, choir members, etc. HNS
members work with the pastor to develop a genuine spirit of
parish unity by offering their assistance to him in carrying
out spiritually beneficial parish programs. They
support and participate in events such as retreats,
Eucharistic adoration, novenas, etc. The second Sunday
of each month is traditionally referred to as “Holy Name
Sunday" and the 10:00 AM Mass is offered for the intentions
of the HNS.
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is a lay Catholic
family fraternal service organization. Membership in
the Knights of Columbus is open to all practicing Catholic
men. One of the primary missions of the Knights of
Columbus is to support local charities. The Knights
are a familiar sight around town during the annual Tootsie
Roll drive, which raises funds for charities that support
the mentally challenged and handicapped. The Knights
also support other fund raising drives to aid local parishes
and charities. The Knights of Columbus promote family
values by providing numerous activities throughout the year
in which the entire family can participate.
Additionally, the organization provides an opportunity to
ensure that a brother Knight and his family is provided for
at the time of his death. The Knights of Columbus home
is located at 518 Thorn Run Road and members meet the first
Thursday of each month.
