Stewardship
Stewardship
In welcoming new parishioners, we encourage good
stewardship, a Christian concept whereby each member of the
parish gives of his time, talent and treasure.
Volunteers are constantly needed for our many ministries and
activities to succeed. One way of keeping abreast of
the many opportunities for service is to read the
weekly bulletin regularly and
then volunteer for something that interests you. Our
parish needs your active participation in order to thrive!
In the Gospels, Jesus repeatedly encourages his disciples to
be living stewards of the many gifts given to us by our
loving God. An important way that we exhibit our
gratitude to the Lord is to share our material wealth by
contributing weekly to the Sunday offertory collections.
At Saint Joseph’s, we espouse the notion of Sacrificial
Giving which is a spiritually motivated way for us to carry
out the stewardship of our treasure - our money.
Sacrificial Giving is based on four principles:
1) In gratitude
to God we return a first portion of our income.
2) Our gift should be a sacrifice.
3) We should give on a planned basis by using the parish
envelope system and by participating in the annual Parish
Share Program.
4) We should use the biblical tithe of 10% as a guiding
principle for our giving.
Christ continually calls his followers to
have complete faith in him. We are called by the Lord
to build up the Kingdom of God on earth by supporting his
Mystical Body, the Church and by helping the poor.
Sacrificial Giving is a step in that direction, and people
who practice it find that they develop a closer relationship
with the Lord and never seem to be in need. At the
same time, they have the satisfaction of contributing to the
mission of the Church and the needs of the poor.
